Today's walk : Masala Wok

Sunday, 27th November 2011. Today's walk is talking about an Indian restaurant - one of the famous Indian restaurant in Houston named Masala Wok. There was a cold whether outside the hotel at that time around 1 PM. The sun was bright but the wind was cold and a bit strong. So me and my friend, Souvik Sengupta, as our planned before was going there used a Yellow Cab (taxi). The cost was about $8.

Coming inside the restaurant they were many menus. Two sided menus Asian and Indian. And some spicy food they put mark as a red pepper. And they have a nice place also. Kind a warm place and the smell of the food that already ready was good also.

The cashier side. The guy with white hoodie is my friend, Souvik.

Front side of the menu.

Back side of the menu. Two sided of Menus Indian and Asian also.

Masala Wok actually a casual Asian Indian restaurant. Because they have an Asian and Indian foods also. The restaurant is located in Carillon 10001 Westhaimer Road Suite 1060. So, what does Masala Wok means? From the paper menus we can see :

Masala is aromatic mixture of ground spices. Sure the smell's very good.
And Wok is a bowl shaped cooking utensil used in Asian cooking for stir fry.
Masala Wok itself has a mean of a casual dinner featuring the best of flavors from Asia and India.

Because I like something about rice, juicy foods, and curious about Indian food spices, I was ordered a Chicken Curry Rice (with Nan - two Indian bread) and Tikka Masala Chicken Rice (with Nan also). Both of them off course less spicy. I don't like too spicy foods. Hehehe. Both of those foods plus some Tikka Massala additional souce and drink was about $33. Here comes some pictures :

While waiting my friend's food ready. We were decided to take a way the foods.

A Chicken Curry Rice with Nan.

A Tikka Masala Chicken Rice with Nan also.

The receipt of those my food for lunch and dinner. See the website? You can order from that also.

Okay finish. So after all those foods include me and my friend was ready to go, we were going a plane to walking come to our hotel. But not so far from Masala Wok restaurant, we just already realized that the whether is not too good. Too cold and wind was blowing strong. So either get sick or our foods will be frozen (hehehehe-too much), we just come back to the restaurant and asked the cashier guy to call a Yellow Cab to brought us back to our - one month peacefully life - hotel. It has taken around $8 also to came back using a cab here.

Well not too much activities for Sunday here. You know, because the whether is beginning to cold. Maybe get winter season sooner. That's it. So like what I was asking my friend, Souvik Sengupta, about some words in Indian usually to say something before eat:

chal kha lete hain!, let's eat*!

Have a good day friend's. Let's work for Monday ^^.

Black Friday (United States) 2011

Today's walk in blog is talking about the Black Friday in United States. I was looking for some definitions in Google to see what exactly is it. Why? Because the days before the Thanksgiving Day, here, I was heard a rumor said that when the Black Friday come (which is a holiday also after the Thanksgiving Day - no work) everything sale was gonna have a huge discount for sale. And the shops will open since the early of the day, maybe around 1-3 AM. Interesting right?

Here some conclusion - a short definition I got from the Google machine:

Black Friday means when the stores start to make a profit for the year and are no longer in the red, with the holiday sales they are now in the black. by JAN
Black Friday is a HUGE shopping day in the U.S., the day after Thanksgiving, which is always on a Thursday. It's the day when many businesses start to actually make a profit for the year, and thus are "in the black" in terms of accounting. by dances with unicorns

So, the day was coming which is the day after the Thanksgiving Day (Thursday). That's mean a Friday. And I was gonna wake up in the morning and remembered due to some warning: please be careful in the street it could be a busy off day and in the shop could be a lot of peoples coming.

I was receive some offering from my office friend to buy some sort of perfumes on the shop name Memorial city mall area. The Memorial area of Houston, Texas, United States is west of Downtown Houston and northwest of Uptown Houston. Please see the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial,_Houston for further information :).

The first come I was going using hotel shuttle bus but later to go back to hotel I was using a yellow cab. The reason is because the hotel shuttle bus can be wait any longer until 12 PM. No particular reason why the hotel shuttle driver do that but I guess because of the holiday itself. So everybody wants their own life to spend, including the hotel shuttle bus driver also.

First coming in Memorial mall area was a perfumes shop named Bath & Body Works. And off course they were a lot of peoples around the mall area and the shop itself. I will show you some pictures :

The cashiers line on The Bath and Body Works area.

A couple of perfumes.

A cute bag made from paper to put all things you buy.

Off course if you said is there any man inside that perfumes shop? I said yes. But normally not too much. Just maybe 2-3 man there include me. Hehehe. And how surprsing they have a discount sale also in here. Like three perfumes you can buy just only for $10 (not include tax). The tax itself is about around 8.25% from the total things you buy.

Around 12 PM off course feeling hungry enough. Going outside the shop and looking for some food in place they called food court area. Going through and see around. Many peoples here. The inside mall area was good.  Here some nice pictures I was taken :

The center of the mall area. They have a big watch also in case maybe peoples forget about the time.

Close up see for the bottom of the big watch. Pretty impressive design.

A view way to a food court area.

Which side you want to go for? The four direction guide way.

Okey, coming to the food court area. They have a lots of food stands there. You can pick up ones nd more food. Like common western foods like Mc Donald, Taco Bell and some kind of pizza food stands, and they have a eastern food stand also like Japanese sushi, Chinese fast food and etc. I was trying to look which one is good enough for my wallet and for my taste. Hehehe.

One side view of the food court area. Peoples come, talk, eat and gone. Hehehe.

Another side of the food court area. This is the food court that has in the way.

Another side of the food court area also. This one was the center of the food court area.

Finnaly, I picked up one a Japanese food stand called Oishii Kitchin. Close enough for my taste.
This food was a Chicken Teriyaki for $9.18 (include tax).

I was going to another place also. They have sport station here for sell shoes, clothes and etc. I was come in a sport store called Food Locker. Their website is www.footlocker.com. If you want to see the store and their product details, the site is in: http://www.footlocker.com/?SID=8793&inceptor=1&cm_mmc=SEM-_-Engine-_-Google-_-www+footlocker.

And I bought a Nike hoodie gray color XL sized. That ones was what I want and need for - a XL sized and a gray scale hoodie. I was looking at Indonesian department stores couple times ago but I didn't found it. And fortunately I found it here. Off course I got some discount also for that. He he he.

I got this in the fornt of some shopping place. It's kind a clothes store.

My new Nike hoodie.I took the picture after come back to the hotel.

I got to back to the hotel and take a rest. For the dinner I was ordered some asian food from a Chinese restaurant around the hotel and gave some fee for the guy who was delivered those food. I like the fresh asian food to go. And in here they have a couple of them. But because that day was a Black Friday which is a holiday, no much food restaurants was open. I was called the one which is still open at that time and has a delivery order also.

Some kind of vegetables and seafood mixed plus hot rice. All of those plus tax and fee it's around $25.

Off course the prize was a quite bit expensive in Indonesia. But for now in here I think is okey so far I got peer diem money and not spend too much about food. I have 3 weeks remain stay here so must be careful about money also. And that's all. I think enough for share the Black Friday day in here. Don't spend too much money even the prize was probably surprisingly so down and don't crazy for shopping. Hehehe. Have a good weekend, friends :).

Thanksgiving Day (United States) 2011

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. It has officially been an annual tradition since 1863, when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday, November 26. As a federal and popular holiday in the U.S., Thanksgiving is one of the major holidays of the year. Together with Christmas and the New Year, Thanksgiving is a part of the broader holiday season.

The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated to give thanks to God for guiding them safely to the New World. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days, providing enough food for 53 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. The feast consisted of fish (cod, eels, and bass) and shellfish (clams, lobster, and mussels), wild fowl (ducks, geese, swans, and turkey), venison, berries and fruit, vegetablespeas, pumpkin, beetroot and possibly, wild or cultivated onion), harvest grains (barley and wheat), and the Three Sisters: beans, dried Indian maize or corn, and squash. The New England colonists were accustomed to regularly celebrating "thanksgivings"—days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought. Those are the history and some short explanation about the Thanksgiving Day from the internet I got. The Thanksgiving Day was already celebrated in here was in Thursday, 24 November 2011.

First all before we're start lets see how the hotel is :). I am living in the hotel they called La Quinta Inns & Suites located in Houston Westchase 10850 Harwin Dr. A quite good hotel. I am staying in 2nd floor.

Tampak dari lantai 2. Inside the La Quinta Inns & Suites looks like.

Kira-kira pukul 10 pagi my friend mrs Mercy was picked me up to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day in their home in Pearland. We were going to buy some fresh vegetables and fish and another good things. We were visiting an Asian supermarket. Inside look likes pretty like common Asian bigstore. They was called by Viet Hoa - International Foods. Close enough from the hotel using a Yellow Cab (taxi). Please check those photos:

Cashier side. Is always in the front of the shop.

Bitter Melon. In Indonesia we called it as Pare. Look how big the size it was.

Kangen sama masakan Indo? Di sini ada kecap nya. Kecap ABC dan kecap Bango. Hehe.

Catfish a.k.a Lele. $ 2.89 per pound (Lb). Size is so big also. Hehehe.

Sempat belanja bahan makanan siap makan & asian food snack like dumpling di sini.

About 12 PM more I was going to Mercy's house in Pearland, Texas. She said that Pearland is in not in the Houston area. So we move a bit further to south (I think from the maps. Hehehe). If you want to know more please visit the official Pearland government site: http://www.ci.pearland.tx.us/.

She and her husband was moved to their new house. The house is amazing and wonderful. I can feel the taste of art inside the house and a warm atmosphere. How interesting. I took the pictures of their house outside:

Tampak bagian depan Mercy's house at Pearland.

Tampak the way in the front of Mercy's house.

After that we has a lunch together. I was always remember she was cooking a rice. Hehehe. Somehow when I eat something here is always good. Even a burger or a froozen food. But you know, eat hot rice is always better :). Hehehe.

Around 3 PM we was going to watching a newest movie in 3D format : Immortals. I always be curious about something like legend, action and animation movie. This is the link of its official trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VdONYkKFmQ.

Tampak depan 'bioskop' Cinemark. He he he.

Beli popcorn dulu sebelum nonton film.

Berfoto sejenak dengan popcorn dan isi ny (bungkusny iklan new Sherlock Holmes:
A Game of Shadows).

Hem.. Han's Solo on Star Wars Ep 1 : The Phantom Menace 3D? Hehehe :P.

The 3D Glasses. Can be recycle after use it or just keep it for your own good.

The movie was great. Amazing and I was remembered about the Matrix movie effect when the good ones was throw the weapon or shooting the enemy with some special lightning arrows. The one I don't like it is  there was too many bloods spread.. For you has already watched the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, you could be upset after saw this movie. But no doubt the effect of sounds and picture was perfect :)!

After that we move outside to find a good place for dinner and celebrate the Thanksgiving day together. We has found an old country store with the restaurant inside. The store named the Cracker Barel. It's pretty nice place and I think I pretty found the mean of Thanksgiving Day at that time.. Not about the celebration, not about the party.. But it all about how we supposed to be thank you to God and be together in close time with our family :). Here some interesting photos :

Tampak depan Cracker Barrel - Old Country Store.

They have a restaurant inside the store. With an old country style decoration also :).

This is what we talked about the old country style. An interior decoration of its restaurant.

Foto dinner bersama Gary Wallace and Mercy Matondang Wallace.

We were enjoying the foods. We come back to the hotel after finished the dinner. Well, it's right that a Thanksgiving Day maybe a celebration for another peoples here. Going to somewhere place. Make a BBQ and etc. But for me a Thanksgiving Day means a close relationship with the peoples you cares most. I was enjoying talking with Mercy's family. We were talking about Bible and life also. It has changed my mind.

Thank you Gary. Thank you Mercy. Have a good weekend and God bless you ^^.
